Concrete Delivery Tips

Get ready for your concrete delivery with helpful tips from Mega City Concrete. Learn how to prepare your site, check weather, ensure truck access and avoid overtime fees.

How to Prepare for Your Concrete Delivery

A little preparation before your concrete delivery can help your project run smoothly, keep your crew productive, and reduce the risk of additional waiting time or overtime charges. At Mega City Concrete, we want every concrete pour to be as efficient and stress-free as possible. Use the checklist below before our volumetric concrete truck arrives on site.

Concrete Delivery Preparation Checklist

Check the weather forecast. Look for rain, freezing temperatures, or other conditions that could affect your concrete pour. Plan accordingly and contact us if you have concerns about the weather.

Ensure adequate parking and working space. Make sure there is enough room for our concrete truck to park safely, position itself, and operate efficiently near the pour area.

Confirm driveway access with the homeowner. If the truck needs to enter a residential driveway, obtain the homeowner's approval beforehand. Concerned about the weight of the truck? If you only require a small quantity of concrete, we can discuss sending a partially loaded truck. Our drivers can also provide guidance on access and positioning, although the suitability of the driveway must be assessed based on its condition and construction.

Make sure the road and access route are clear. Check for parked vehicles, low-hanging branches, overhead wires, narrow entrances, soft ground, or other obstructions that could prevent safe truck access.

Prepare your wheelbarrows. Check that all wheelbarrows are ready to use, with properly inflated tires and no mechanical issues. Have enough wheelbarrows and workers available to keep the concrete moving.

Protect finished surfaces and nearby areas. Use tarps or plastic sheeting where appropriate to protect doors, finished flooring, landscaping, walkways, and other surfaces from concrete splashes or spills.

Have all concrete placing tools ready. Prepare your shovels, rakes, screeds, floats, edgers, and any other tools needed to place and finish the concrete before delivery begins.

Keep communication open with the driver. With volumetric concrete delivery, the truck mixes concrete on site as needed. Let the driver know when you have approximately one or two wheelbarrows of concrete remaining so mixing can be stopped or adjusted at the appropriate time. This helps minimize excess concrete and material waste.

Have your crew ready before the truck arrives. Ensure the forms are complete, the pour area is prepared, and enough workers are available to place and finish the concrete. Delays after the truck arrives can increase the risk of additional charges.
